Leather Work

The first step in crafting a bag is meticulously selecting the leather hides.

Leather Splitting

Parler de la refente. Pourquoi on refend le cuir ? etc.

Skiving

The paring process ensures quality by refining the edges of the panels to be assembled. This step makes it possible to create smooth lines and clean seams with minimal material waste.

Leveling

Because leather is a natural material, its thickness varies. To ensure perfect manufacturing, each panel is leveled to the nearest millimeter.

Template Cutting

The first step in crafting a bag, after meticulously selecting the leather hides, is hand-cutting the various panels of the bag, taking into account the natural characteristics of the leather.

Each Polène leather piece is the fruit of collaboration between creative design and handcrafted production. Designers, model makers, and leather craftsmen work closely together to establish a pattern from which the bag will be made. The craftsmen’s experience with the material allows them to adjust the design to sculpt the leather as closely as possible to the original design of the piece.

Creasing

The edges of the bag are meticulously finished to highlight the precise curves of a Polène piece.

Tint

The edges are coated and then painted, bringing attention to the fine details of exceptional craftsmanship. This step requires a great deal of skill to precisely outline the intricate contours of the soon perfect bag.

Gluing

The gluing process reinforces the leather to achieve the desired rigidity or flexibility. Extensive testing is required to select the right reinforcements that will give the leather the desired malleability and hold.

Parler du type de colle. À base d’eau, donc environment friendly, pas d’émanation etc.

Stitching

The stitching is done by hand or on a sewing machine operated by a craftsman.

Parler de la qualité du fil (provient de l’Allemagne, non pas de Chine, donc assure la qualité)

Embossing

Taurillon leather is esteemed for its soft texture and remarkable resilience. The cattle are raised for approximately 12 months and provide leather with a higher fibre density, making it a particularly durable choice, ideal for objects that are made to last.
